Most matrimonial profiles say the same six things. What to write instead, what to leave out, and why one clear photograph outperforms every adjective.
Read fifty matrimonial profiles and forty-five will say the candidate is god-fearing, family-oriented, simple and looking for a caring life partner. None of it is untrue. All of it is invisible, because everybody writes it.
Write the specific thing
A profile is read by a parent scanning twenty in an evening. What stops them is a detail they can picture.
Not: I am a simple person from a middle-class family.
But: I teach chemistry at a higher secondary school in Thodupuzha and have done for six years. My father ran a hardware shop until he retired; my sister is married and in Bengaluru.
The second tells a family who you are, what your days look like and what kind of household you come from. It took no more words.
Say what you actually want
"Looking for a god-fearing partner" narrows nothing. Try naming one or two things that genuinely matter to you — that you hope to keep working after marriage, that you would rather stay near your parents, that you intend to remain abroad, that you would prefer someone from your own rite. A profile that filters people out is doing its job.
The photograph does more than the text
Families look at profiles with a photograph first. One clear, recent, well-lit picture of your face, looking at the camera, does more than any paragraph.
- Recent — within the last year.
- Your face clearly visible, not in sunglasses, not at a distance.
- Alone. A group photograph makes a family guess.
- Daylight, plain background.

Complete the whole profile
Rite, diocese and parish are the fields Kerala Catholic families search on most. A profile missing them will not appear when someone filters for their own community — which is exactly the person most likely to be interested.
Things to leave out
- Your phone number and email in the free-text fields. Contact details are shared through the service when you choose; putting them in the open invites exactly the people you do not want.
- Salary figures. Say the role and the sector.
- A list of demands. It reads the way it sounds.
Before you publish, read it aloud
If it sounds like a form, rewrite one sentence in your own voice. That single sentence is usually the reason someone writes to you.
